My Media Consumption
I spend 4 hours and 7 minutes on my phone daily. This is much lower than I expected. My screen time was down 39% from last week. iMessage is my most used app at 40 minutes a day. Followed by Snapchat at 30 minutes a day.
I am partially surprised that iMessage is my most used app since I prefer to spend my screen time on Instagram or TikTok.
It is just shocking to see how much of my day I spend answering text messages. I run a staff of 12 employees. Texting is my main form of communication because that is how they answer the fastest.
I spend most of my time texting because people are always contacting me with questions. I also hold an executive council position for the Panhellenic council.
My executive board has a group chat where we communicate about events on what each position holder is doing as well as updates from the community. This position requires me to be in contact with every chapter on campus.
I have a group chat with the DEI chair of every chapter on campus to ensure they are doing their position and educating their chapters. My responsibility keeps me coming back to messaging. People have questions for me that need to be answered.
The only thing I like about Snapchat is the ability to see what my friends are up to. People post more casual and frequent content on Snapchat.
I have group chats on Snapchat for class projects. Younger people seem to prefer group chats to be on Snapchat because it is easier to and friends on Snapchat rather than adding new contacts in their phone.
I’m shocked that Snapchat is my most used app after messages. I’m not a huge fan of Snapchat. I expected Instagram to be the most used app. I get more entertainment from Instagram and TikTok than Snapchat.
I believe these numbers are accurate because I have been extremely busy this past week and apparently, I wasn’t using my phone as much. I would be nervous to see me screen time when I am not busy like on summer break.
